Washington Stars Charity Quilting
The Washington Stars Quilt Guild sews reusable grocery bags to donate to the Food Bank. In 2014, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and unincorporated Thurston County adopted an ordinance that bans single-use plastic bags. This project is a great way to use up heavier fabrics like upholstery, corduroy and drapery material. Linings can be some of those 'whatever was I thinking when I bought this fabric'. The Charity Quilting Committee accepts donations throughout the year at guild meetings or during the Charity Sew Day at Ruby Street Quiltworks in Tumwater on the third Wednesday each month (except June and December). The Food Bank hands them out to their more reliable clients that will bring them back for reuse. Those patrons returning with one of these bags is rewarded with items not available to others.
